Lesson #24

Basketweaving

You are now ready to make a basketweave table. If you can make a basketweave, you can make anything you want.

This project will require most of the techniques you have learned in the table course: nested tables, colspan, rowspan and gradcolors. You may use SSI to save time, but it is not required.

This table is your "final exam". But it is "open book", so feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Here is a basketweave table:
Basketweave Table

It has horizontal straws:
and vertical straws:

Each straw section that you see is a nested table. The vertical sections are the same size as the horizontal sections. As you can see, the sides of each section are straight, but when you put them together in a table, they appear to be "bulged" or "pinched". This is an optical illusion.

Here is a basketweave with cellspacing="1".

Homework Assignment

  • Design a basketweave table that has 4 or more horizontal straws (rows) and 4 or more vertical straws (columns).
  • Use different colors for different sections if you like.
  • Try a little cellspacing if you would like to separate the straws a bit.

  • Show your work
